Have you been asked if you want to buy Twitter followers?

Buy Twitter Followers

Chances are if you’re on Twitter you’ve gotten multiple annoying direct messages that are asking you to buy Twitter followers for only $5.

Why would you want to buy followers?

Well the truth is it’s a vanity thing.

People buy Twitter followers for credibility, in order to appear more popular than they are in their niche or to create the perception that they are an expert.

The problem is that it doesn’t even work anymore because it’s so EASY to spot accounts with fake followers!

And yet, so many people still do it.

They would rather have 10,000 fake followers than 100 real followers. They don’t recognize how much it hurts their image…and it gets them nowhere!

Why is buying followers a bad idea?

Loss of Reputation.

Take for example Hillary Rodham Clinton.

There is article after article online about how many fake followers she has. Regardless of whether or not she actually purchased them (I’m going to go out on a limb and say I find it unlikely, but who knows), the fact remains that it LOOKS bad.

Don’t get me wrong, everyone is going to have SOME fake followers, but it shouldn’t be a high percentage if you’ve been growing your account the right way.

Even large accounts can be made up of primarily real Twitter users.

As you can see, 97% of my 23,000+ followers are real, according to Twitter Audit.

buy targeted twitter followers

Low Engagement.

The whole point of social media is to grow a community of ideal customers, but if you’re buying followers you’re not connecting with any new potential customers/clients.

You’re just paying for a high number, which will get you nothing in return. Or, to phrase it differently, your ROI will be zero. And that just makes zero sense to me. <wink>

The only POSSIBLE value in buying followers (and I’m not recommending you do this) is that it would shift the follower-following ratio in your favor. If you’ve ever hit a wall when you tried to follow over 2,000 people, you know that you have to have more people following YOU in order to follow others.

You can only follow ten percent more accounts than those that are following you.

So, hypothetically, if you got stuck at 2,000 (the number of accounts that Twitter lets you follow before their ratio kicks in), buying followers would let you push past that threshold to follow others.

However, keep in mind that at some point those purchased followers will probably unfollow you or if spam accounts they’ll be closed by Twitter.

Also, if you’re following and unfollowing strategy hasn’t been able to get you past 2,000 followers yet, buying Twitter followers won’t help you get more real Twitter followers who’ll engage with you (even if you do have a boost from paid followers).

Instead of buying fake Twitter followers, I would recommend that you try a new strategy for finding your ideal client or that you re-evaluate your Twitter content strategy and see if your content or frequency of tweets could be improved.

Can real Twitter followers be bought legitimately?

Yes!

(I know, you’re probably shocked by my answer, but let me explain…)

You can “buy” Twitter followers by running targeted ads.

Twitter Ads allow for very specific targeting so you can run ads to find the Twitter users who are most likely to be interested in the content you’ll be posting.

This is a legitimate way that you can invest in increasing your Twitter following and bring your follower account to a reasonable entry level so you or your business looks credible at a glance.

Final Thoughts

So, if you’ve purchased fake followers in the past don’t do it again!

If you haven’t been very active on Twitter and are only following a few people yet have LOTS of fake followers, you may want to consider even starting over with a brand new account.

You can use a tool like Social Quant to grow a targeted following and/or invest in some Twitter ads to target the right people and grow your account. Whatever you do though if you get that psst direct message asking if you want to buy Twitter followers, don’t!

I was kind of surprised to read this article to hear that people still buy Twitter followers. I know there are a lot of faux accounts out there who want to sell you followers, but I didn’t think anyone actually ever did. The only reason I clicked on the tweet to read this was because I wanted to see if you mentioned Follower Ads and I was pleased to see that you did. I know a lot of companies create Follower Ads, but do
